What is bridge?

A dental bridge (or pontic) is a custom-made false tooth or teeth, that is permanently placed between two healthy teeth, adjacent to the missing tooth or teeth. The bridge is held in place by porcelain crowns placed on the healthy teeth on each side of space to be filled.

Who is a candidate for a bridge?

Those who do not have a tooth either in front or in a back of the jaw are a good candidate for a bridge. Bridge replaces one or more than one missing teeth.

How complicated is the procedure?

  1. In your first visit, we examine your oral condition to evaluate if you are a right candidate for bridge or not. To have a bridge you should have strong teeth adjacent to your missing tooth.
  2. On your next appointment, we first administer an anesthetic to numb the area. Then, a minimal amount of tooth structure will be removed from the teeth on either side of the space to be filled by the new tooth or teeth.
  3. An impression of the area will be made. This impression will be sent to a dental laboratory, serving as a model from which the bridge will be created.
  4. We will then fit a temporary bridge so that you’ll not feel any sensation till the permanent bridge is fitted on to the tooth.
  5. At the next visit, when the permanent bridge is ready, we will remove the temporary bridge and fit the new bridge. We will then bond the new bridge to the teeth with the special bonding materials.
